An episode to memorialize David Lynch , recorded shortly after his death.
Kubrick was a fan of Eraserhead, showed it to The Shining crew
Lynch into making objects. Eraserhead is in part a sculpture,
Lynch himself as liminal figure. Horror films, but not according to pre-existing template (so more effective).
JFM: his films are defined by the presence of non-human beings. Of course, supernaturalism. Bob vs. Leland Palmer. Victoria Nelson def of supernaturalist. So, not a surrealist, he is trying to capture reality.
Mailer: extraordinary experiences (hm that's maybe a better term than supernatural?)
Most canonical scene: diner scene in Mulholland Drive
"There's a man in the back of this place, he;s the one whose doing it"
Jung, spirit of the times vs spirit of the depths. The everyday world and the supernal world
