    • Fun stuff about Voltron. I was way too old for that, but seems like given my interests it should be in my vocabulary at least.
    • On Meditations on the Tarot – two possibly irreconcilable principles. (darn wish I had tables)
      • solar/lunar rational/occult masculine/feminine
    • But MotT does something else. The thing about Moon is it shines only through reflection, and hence is secondary to the solar. But Tomberg assigns reason to the lunar (for some reason).
    • Connotations of the card: reversal, connection between worlds, standstill.
    • Ref to Henri Bergson. Philosophy as a spiritual practice.
      • Some discussion of beaver dam construction vs. planning. Think there's some confusion there, that dam building is "one thing". Seems like complete bullshit to me, sorry.
    • Ambivalence, duality, transformation....prima materia...
    • Moon as a pathway card (like The Fool it suggests a journey) (also recalls its role in Sandman Game of You story)
    • Aleister Crowley description as a path of terror, horror, abominations, darkness, the place of the dark night of the soul. In the midst of horror, declare "how splendid the adventure!" – JFM describes this as literal lunacy.
    • Ref to Carl Jung's Red Book, which I guess is an important occult reference.
    • "it completely undoes YOU as a psychic entity."...to embrace that level of dismemberment, you need to be a little crazy. Nobody would every want to go there, you only go if you are forced.
    • Descent into disintegration, unknowing, complete destruction...as a condition of rebirth.
    • Paths of self don't have warning labels about the dangers, and even if they did you wouldn't understand it.
    • Anonymous: we have an impoverished model of conscious (p495)
      • reflective light (sort of everyday material perception), Moon
      • revealed light (transcendental values like morality, teleology that justifies a descent into the darkness), Star
    • vs. the masters of suspicion (Nietzsche, Foucault, also Marx and Freud). Decrying the post-truth world. Hermeticism as the missing part of modernism, or the cure for rampant room-full-of-mirrors humanism.
    • A later listen Jun 25th, 2023
      • Antoine Faivre - Wikipedia founder of esotericism as a respectible scholarly discipline. What is that? Well, obviously a predecessor of WS.
        • According to Hanegraaff, Faivre's criteria for what constitutes Western esotericism can be seen as essentially describing an "enchanted" worldview, as compared to Max Weber's notion of "disenchantment". Hanegraaff also traces Faivre's notion of "correspondences" back to the Neoplatonic concept of sympatheia.
      • Connotations of reversal, reminds JF of Black Lodge from Twin Peaks, Stagnation, opposites that can't be resolved.
