  • No that's stupid metaphysics. It makes a lot more sense if "states" means "states of mind". Then the dualism of inside and outside drops away, leaving something like pure awareness. And there is no foundation because there is no self. And rigpa, while not a state, and without methods, has characteristics...

    • My MIT materialist fundamentalism says to not believe in this. Maybe my burgeouning Buddist as well. Awareness has to be materially grounded, the product of some complex biological/computational machinery.
    • But what if that's wrong? It feels axiomatic but real thought means rethinking your axioms.
    • (As always, feel a deep desire to ask Chapman his opinion. Not that I agree with him about everything but he would have a unique and well-informed take on the subject, if he cared to).
      • Want a Chapman-bot, I wonder what he'd think about that. Feel like offering to build one for him, but not sure why, its somehting he could easily do himself if he wanted to.
