Ted Nelson opened what might have been the world's first retail consumer computer store, the itty-bitty machine company, in Evanston, 1975-6 or so. I helped paint the storefront (near the Whole Earth Bookstore near Dempster & Chicago) and generated some computer graphics (on PLATO) that hung as signage.
