- Personal origin story: from AI (Minsky, bits) to Cybernetics (Pask, purpose)
- From Dec 2020, have I really been at this that long?
- AiTech Agora: Prof. Paul Pangaro: Cybernetics, AI, and Ethical Conversations - YouTube
- Notes on the above:
- AI ethics, intentions...goal is problematic term. Means: we are considering goal. "Doesn't want to be a rationalist" –
- Macy meeting "swarmed the zeitgeist".
- Contrast with Darthmouth and rise of symbolic AI – was deliberately anti-cybernetics. Perceptrons also helped kill it. Apparently von Foerster was severely impacted by this.
- Various ethical challenges of today's AI
- AI as pandemic. "AI is making the world...human purpose is lost"
- Wicked problems need a conversational and global approach....
- Cybernetics is antidisciplinary.
- Seeks to regulate not to dominate.
- Proposing cybernetics as synthesis of "conversation" and today AI. "Conversation" seems to be a big fucking portmanteau word.
- Recommends Andy Pickering, Cybernetic Brain
- Pask, Colloquy of Mobiles. Conversation Theory
- "I shall act always so as to increase the total number of choices". (But choices means something special...) – Heinz von Foerster, "Ethical Imperative"
- "don't make a decision, let the decision make you" – distinct from consumer options, its something that makes you you.
