- Science and medicine are ripe areas for protocol improvement. In particular, the protocols and practices of sharing data and materials are not well-esstablished and mostly operate in extremely ad-hoc ways. There is a general acknowledgement of the need and responsibility to share data, but few practical efforts.
Institutions that promote sharing
- Science Commons (defunct but I actually contributed to this, see MTA generator )
- GenBank Overview and other repositories
Areas / Shearing Layers
- Data standards (in some sense this is the easiest, and an area where there is continuous adoption)
- Ownership, IP agreements etc
- Government decrees (eg that all fed funded work should be shared)
- The Open Science movement
