    • book by Abbie Hoffman, a guidebook for counterculture rebels on how to live outside the system by violating its rules. Made a big mpression on me in my youth, seems pretty cringe nowadays, but I would have to rate it an influence . Thinking of it now as a guidebook for protocol violation, right there in the title.
    • The most rebel thing I ever did was make black boxes – devices for getting free long-distance phone service, back when that was expensive. Didn't get that from the book though; the plans were published in Ramparts magazine. I mass-produced these and distributed them to Hashomer Hatzair groups around the nation so they could stay in touch better.
