    • His theory of the imagination.
    • I have trouble with all this nonsense. Orientation and tribalism. The MIT mind searches for material, non-fantastical explanations. This is searching for the opposite, the inexplicable. I'd like to think of myself as laboring to transcend this tired dualistic tribalism, but not sure I have the intellectual energy. It's not so hard to imagine a world where both types of thinking have some validity, but it is exhausting trying to keep these two very different value systems from hating each other.
      • OTOH if breaking away from MIT mind is my goal, this is how you get there.
    • Do not like the emphasis on special humans. Say what you will of MIT-mind, at least it is against that. People work the same way.
    • there is no fundamental distinction between subjective and objective states, between consciousness and cosmos (p8)
      • This is very compatible with MIT-materialism, although the viewpoint is different. This is what gives me hope that I can make sense of it all.

      • preach
    • dual-aspect monism
    • Cites Donald Hoffman's The Case Against Reality (which I also happen to have from the library) as compatible with his view but coming from different direction. OK. Also Phillip Ball on quantum wook
    • Reality as radically particiatory. OK.
    • This is a book about why the humanities must stop ceding reality to the sciences. (p16)
      • OK there's the tired tribalism again. Although I don't disagree really.'
    • To think impossibly is not only to think-with special human beings (p23)'
      • OK off the train, fuck specialness.
