Desecration

- Draft for a Substack post Desecration - mtraven
- (shouldn't it be spelled desacration? Oh well English makes no sense)
- See Defacement. And I guess sacredness which obviously goes hand-in-disgusting-paw with its grotty sibling.
- Trump putting his name on the Kennedy Center – it’s really too perfectly calibrated to as an offense against a certain kind of high-mindedness. that Kennedy and his memorials have come to symbolize. Trump may be a moron but when it comes to culture war he knows exactly what he is doing. It’s an act of desecration, aimed at the sacred values of the educated, liberal, professional, intellectual class.
- Bulldozing the East Wing of the White House was an even more obvious act of desecration. Not just to the effete this time, you would think anyone who has a minimal respect for history would be offended by this.
- Liberals seem to have difficulty in acknowledging the simple reality that there are people who not only hate them, but all that is sacred to them. Forces of evil, although we don’t like to use that term. Malign forces. Fascist forces.
- It’s hard for well-intentioned liberals to really understand what is going on, because they can’t imagine people who don’t share their fundamental values. It’s not that they deny that such people exist but can’t model them very well. It is hard to accept that there are people who hate you, hate your values, want to destroy the things you love. Whether they offend violating basic law by murder and torture, or the laws of good taste and dignified conduct, its the same logic. If you or I or anyone with a modicum of belief in the liberal ideal of the country is offended, that’s a plus, that’s more or less the main goal.
